Winner of first prize and the Public's Choice Award at the 2014 Montreux Jazz Festival International Guitar Competition, Alex Goodman has been hailed as "a definite musical voice" (Guitar International), and as a player of “fluid lyricism” (Downbeat), “dazzling improvisational dexterity and engagingly smart composition (New York City Jazz Record).

In 2013, Alex's CD Bridges was nominated for a JUNO, Canada's highest musical honor, as Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year. Since moving to New York in 2012, Goodman has had the opportunity to record with international artists including John Patitucci, Dick Oatts, Kevin Hays, and Rich Perry and perform with a wide variety of others like Charles Lloyd, Ari Hoenig, Terell Stafford, Eric Harland and Fabian Almazan. He plays regularly in bands led by musicians like Manuel Valera, Lucas Pino, Martina DaSilva, Roxy Coss, Remy Le Boeuf, and many more. Alex was awarded a 2013 ASCAP Herb Alpert Jazz Composer Award, has written a book of guitar etudes and has composed extensively for jazz and chamber groups, orchestras, big bands, and string quartets.

Alex has performed at the top New York City jazz clubs such as the Blue Note, Jazz Standard, Smalls, the Appel Room at Lincoln Center, Dizzy's, Birdland, the Jazz Gallery, Mezzrow, 55 Bar, Smoke, National Sawdust, and Fat Cat, at prestigious international venues such as the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and Massey Hall in Toronto as well as at jazz festivals including Winter Jazz Fest in New York, the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Alex has played across the world in countries including Bulgaria, Ukraine, Mexico, India, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Holland and Belgium. He is a graduate of the Master's program in Jazz Performance at the Manhattan School of Music.
